HP Error - HP Message Service has Stopped working and HP on Screen Display has stoppe

Dear Techies,

I am having this problem as stated above. I have a Pavilion dv7 Envy Series Laptop that came with Windows 7 Home Edition. I have since upgraded it to Ultimate Edition and downloaded any Microsoft update required.

Trouble now is, I get these two errors above and this then more or less freezes the PC and the display all goes funny. I simply do not have any choice but to hard reboot the PC and after about 10 - 30 minutes both erros come up again Displayed on the screen. Then I am unable do nothting with the Laptop but to reboot the laptop even a shutdown simply fails except a hard reboot.

When I load a backed up image of the new windows 7 ultimate editon which is a copy a made earlier and do not install any msupdates the erros does not come up but then the display is not right untill I install updates but then this error re-occures. I have looked on the web and sites but not getting much happiness with this. I also have an old image of the windows 7 Home Edition but do not want to use or load that immage.

There has to be some display configuration I can set or remove some drivers or tweaking to resolve this issue. I am not so new to computers but this is testing me to the limit. Any ideas please what to do next thanks in advance!!

Is the restore partition still intact? How did you update to Ultimate?

Of course you don't need the bundled HP Services, so you can uninstall them altogether.

Did you installed the botched Windows Update KB 2859537?

Thanks for the quick reply, I am not sure what KB update number it was, how can I check and confirm this please?

Also, the HP bundled services, how do I take it off and there may be functions it does in the laptop. Right now, I really don't care, If I can take off this bundled services then I will as it has caused me so much challenge these few days. Just had enough of it.

The HP bundled services will not affect the use of the laptop. Probably just slow the thing down. You can get rid of them via the Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a Program.

If you are not sure of what to uninstall, you can provide a list of what is installed by running CCleaner, going to it's Tools section, then Uninstall and choosing 'Save to Text File' in the bottom right hand corner. Save it and post it in your reply. Do the same for Startup.

As for the Windows Update: Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features > View Installed updates

Did uninstalling the Updates help after a reboot?

The next thing that you can do is to disable all of the Startup items using CCleaner(Cleaner > Tools > Startup > Click on first entry > Ctrl + A > Disable Startup item. This way you can check which items that you need/want to start up with Windows. You can start them manually if you want to see/use them. Reboot and see how you go.
You can then go back to CCleaner in order to Click on and to choose 'Enable' with the ones that you wish to see/startup with Windows once you know. Reboot again and though choices will again start with Windows.

This way we can more accurately decide which to uninstall completely.
