  • Its an old car and if you waded through auto trader expecting a cheaper older car to be tip top...
Buy a new exhaust to start with. How long did you anticipate keeping it?

You bought a 12 year old car for less than £1000 and you seriously expect them to replace the exhaust. Which you did not inspect before buying. You must be having a laugh. I'm surprised the garage hasn't told you to f*** off. They seem to be doing the right thing by ignoring you.

This section is getting more and more of these threads.

"I bought a banger for sub 1k and it needs windsreen wipers or a couple of brake discs and they want to unleash the small claims court and chant about their 'rights'.

Well I can not believe a buyer is moaning about a rusty exhaust on a 2001 £900 car. Get a bloody life, these poor garages that sell these part ex/ cheap cars do have a hard time. They are OLD cars and parts will be worn out especially an exhaust which I class as a consumable item.

Please leave the garage alone and get the part that needs replacing replaced. I guess what you really need is to buy a brand new car so nothing to moan about.

If I was the garage I would rather go bankrupt than give you any money for an exhaust, now go get it fixed and say sorry to the seller for being an a.r.s.e
Google gives you answers use it.........

Call the local garages and ask how much for an exhaust or take it down to 1 and ask them to tell you if it needs an exhaust or if you could get away with swapping out the part with the hole in.

The car is drivable but I have hardly driven it as I wanted to take it back. If I start using it on a regular basis it might turn out that something else is broken and I will not be able to return it as it has already been 3 months now since I bought it.

that's the risk you take with second and cars. I bought a 2000 plate Volvo in September that needed new pads, turned out it needed pads, discs, callipers and shoes that cost £300. No issues for 7 months till the alternator went.... It's the risk of buying a second hand car, if you want it to be perfect then you have to buy a new one.

It's not just the '£60 Court fee'. You will have to pay a further £40 admin fee + a fee of up to £300 for the hearing fee. If you win, these get added to the costs awarded to you.
If they fail to pay, then it's another £60 to send in the bailiffs.

You could, of course, simply pay for the repairs, drive the car & tell all and sundry to avoid buying cars from that particular dealership. After all, a few lost sales will cost them more then the cost of repairing your car.
