car written off

i had a lorry go into the back of me (while i was stationary) nearly 2 weeks ago and have just found out from the garage today that the car is going to be a write off, what happeneds when they send me an offer and i refuse if i think its too low? i only brought the car 2 months ago for just over £8,000 i have been looking on different website such as autotrader and in news papers but i cannot seem to find a car of the same spec close to me (within 30miles) does the colour of the car come into it? as i had a dark blue car which are far and few to come by where as the silver ones are more common and cheaper

you're doing the right thing by getting evidence of how much they cost, but I'm afraid the colour won't make much difference unless it was a Ferrari!

I had my car written off about a year ago, and did as you, looking in Autotrader etc for examples of like cars and the price.

I tried to knock back the offer but was told that they did not really accept the autotrader prices as these were only a guide of what people were asking for, not what people were paying.

All in all when given the offer I used the Vauxhall link , as recommended on this site, to check out Glasses guide for free and they actually offered £200 above the top price in there for my cars age and mileage. The car was in exceptional condition and I really had no hope of raising the price.

All I can advise is you wait till the price comes in and compare it to the glasses price, as this is the industry bible on used prices. If they are pretty much hitting the middle figure the offer is quite good.

Hope they give you a good deal, I sent them a letter prior to any deal telling them of the condition and including copies of all relevant information to help them decide on its value, a copy of the receipt and the recent purchase may encourage them to be generous, it never hurts to give them as much info about the car as you have.

Good luck and let us know how you get on

well i have finally got it sorted just waiting for the payment now, they offered me £1,200 less than what i paid 3 months ago so i took the payment as a intermin payment and asked for more and managed to get £900 more so i have only lost £300. The man on the phone told me that they only pay for the car so if you have paid to have a warrenty you will loose that and same if you just put for brand new expensive tyres you wont get a penny extra for that.

Also does anyone know how this works as i always thought that it was the insurance you was claiming off made an offer but when i was speaking to my insurance it seems that they make you the offer and the insurance your claiming off will pay what ever your insurance gives you?
