he got made redundant last December, claimed jsa cb for a littlw while, now he claims carers allowance for our son, he overpaid his tax when he worked, and we know he got taxed on the £900 odd he claimed jsa,
why hasn't he received the rest of his tax? is it because he claims carers allowance?

Has he contacted HMRC regarding any queries over the tax he paid ?I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0

Did he start getting CA before the end of the last tax year? (5th April 2013 BTW). If yes then add up his total JSA gross wage from job and the total CA to end of tax year. Then Deduct £8105 if that was his personal allowance and multiply that out at 20%. Is this amount less than tax he paid in the job for the year then a refund is due. Once you have those figures - you can ring HMRC and they should be able to issue a refund as they will have all P60's by now to hand to verify his pay etc. However your OH will need to do the ringing as they do not normally speak to anyone but the actual person concerned.
