Need to clean garage ready for painting

I've had a new ceiling put into my garage and the work was very messy. I've removed all the mess as best as I can so far. I want to paint the ceiling and walls with emulsion in the next couple of weeks and want to make them as dust-free as possible.
What's a good way to prepare the ceiling and walls for painting (walls are painted brick, ceiling is bare plaster).
My idea was to use a broom/brush to get rid of most of the dust off the walls and then use a mop to pick up any dust remaining on the walls.
I can't wash the walls down with a hosepipe because of power sockets and a boiler on the wall.
