Car cigarette lighter

Hi all
I recently bought a second hand car but only just passed my test and went to use the cigarette lighter to power my sat nag and noticed is does not work. Having looked at it, it seems like the unit may have been taken out and a dummy unit put it if that makes sense?
does anyone know how much they are to replace and is it a big job? also, do I need to take it to Ford as it seems more of a specialist thing?

Do you mean the lighter bit that comes out is a dummy or the socket part in the car is a dummy.
I have a cigarette lighter socket with a dummy plug in it, in 2 of my cars.
It would be very unusual to have a dummy socket though.
You can buy a new socket on eBay if you need one - not expensive and easy to replace.0 -
Check all the fuses in the fuse box before you start to spend money.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0

Simple job with a soldering iron. Replacement from Ebay - approx £40

just been out for a look, mine is exactly the same as the OH who's does work so no problem there. Checked fuse box and it appears the fuse MAY be missing
I notice Halfords do them, does anyone have any idea what type and AMP I need?0 -
Your handbook should tell you -
but if you haven't got a handbook .....
.... the fuse will be the same type as the other fuses and the amps will / should be marked on the fuse box - or the fuse box cover.
What make of car is this anyway?0 -
The fusebox will normally tell you what fuse should be there.
For a lighter socket its usually 10A.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

I didnt get the owners manual
It is a Ford Fiesta 20040 -
Google is your friend for this - you'll get things like here:

Joining a mark or model specific forum is a good idea.
Also check eBay for a handbook.
Good luck.0 -
