PayPal Heretm is now available to all businesses in the UK, meaning small and medium businesses can now easily and securely accept PayPal, credit and debit card payments offline, wherever they do business.

The British-designed Chip and PIN card reader has been built specifically for businesses that traditionally rely on cash. Market stall owners, taxi drivers and tradesmen need never have to turn business away if the customer doesn't have enough cash on them.

It couldn't be easier to get started with PayPal Heretm:

1. Download the free PayPal Heretm app from iTunes (iOS) or Google Play (Android)

2. Enter a few details about your business

3. Order your card reader through the app

4. Pair it with your mobile device via Bluetooth and start taking payments

PayPal Heretm not only lets you accept credit and debit cards but also log cash and cheques, send electronic receipts and invoices, and accept PayPal Check in. There is just a one-off charge of £99 for the card reader and then a small fee per transaction using the card reader.*

PayPal Heretm's release is another innovation from PayPal that's transforming the way we do business. It follows the recent launch of a new Check in feature on the PayPal app that allows customers to pay using their profile picture for the first time.

It looks to me as though they have overpriced this. There are others doing the same thing already that aren't charging for hardware and have comparable charges.

So can i goto a shop and pay with paypal then rush home and say i have not received it and get a refund?

Wonder if the scammers have all the info they need to cheat the system?

PayPal have overpriced that, it's already available with lower terminal prices and lower fees:

Basically the list is endless, and I can't really see PayPal making a massive breakthrough into this market. Plus their readers aren't as advanced, as they don't have a display on them.

They seem to be doing this to keep their hand in that part of the market. Paypal possibly have an edge being a known brand. They're still after smartphone payments to take hold more. No one knows how all this part of the market will pan out. The banks are taking their time catching up if they ever will. It looks like a gold rush with no one knowing if there is any gold.

I assume it works the same as in person credit card payments. This is a direct payment service face to face, not a remote one.
