Novatech PCs

Hi,
Was hoping you may be able to offer a little advice on Novatech PCs i am due to replace my PC in a little while and in the spirit of supporting the British Economy i have been considering one of there PCs any pros and cons you can give will be of great help in making my decision. Secondly does it make any difference if i purchase Windows 8 and then get the free update to Windows 8.1 when it is released or is it better to just wait and purchase it in its entirety. Thanks :undecided

My nephews has one of their pc;s and no cons i can think off, it was top of the range, I usually buy all my pc hardware from there.

Take my pc an example, whilst it was a self build all items where purchased from novatech.
motherboard bundle, pc case, hdd's, even my lcd 22 in tv/monitor was bought their. MIRAI never had a problem with it, think the remote control might need replacing due to the number of times i've dropped it. As i cant seem to bring up teletext now but its out of warranty and i dont really need teletext.

It shouldn't make any difference if you purchase 8 now and then get the free update. Personally i wouldn't install 8 or 8.1 on any pc i owned, took me 3-4years and a new PC to upgrade to windows 7 64bit from xp pro.

personally and this is my view but if you have a read around on google a reasonable view alot of people do not like it for many reasons. i would just get windows 7 pro works far better imho.
bit like when vista came out to replace xp that was a turkey that used twice as many resources, i know this when i did fresh install on existing machine it used double the ram usage on just running background use doing nothing.
anyway with 8 there are 2 modes a desktop mode and a tablet mode with certain info on desktop mode when you transfer into tablet mode doesn't carry the content thru to same prog in tablet mode as one example that people don't like also trying to patch it up with a start button fix is not a good idea either. question you have to ask yourself is why now are they going to be putting in the start button patch in is because people are not buying it at all, e.g. in the numbers they are thinking of. too many holes to fix on this one i think but thats just my opionon.

For my sins , I have a Novatech Laptop which I use as a day to day workhorse. Running W7-64bit or more likely Fedora 64 bit , added 4 GB of ram, 8GB in total. It runs very happily including W8.1 in a VM under Fedora and W7 32bit also in a VM (often both at the same time). Con it is getting old and the speakers went (after 3 years) so I bought a soundbar. Pros I use it every day and apart from the speakers no qualms , it has USB3 too , which was a pain to get working under Ubuntu back then but fedora had no probs and I have been with that ever since.
A month ago I had to buy a new desk for the OH for her work, old one went back to them. So I bought a new Novatech CORE I5 4430 for her (well ok she bought it, I suggested it). 1 Problem thus far would you believe it USB3 again, but I thought ok call them , guy I spoke to was quite knowledgeable and said it could be the drivers (yeah I know that, but hey I couldn't find a newer one) so he asked if it would be OK to use logmein to explore. To cut this long story shorter he wnt to the board manufacturers web site and confirmed what I knew, but he then went to the Intel site and found a newer driver , after 30 mins everything was running as it should be i.e. USB3 running at USB3 speed. So after sales service seems ok too.

Edit: OH I forgot imho I would buy Windows 7 pro 64 bit and enjoy it, 8 will be better with 8.1 , but still not as good as 7 unless you have touchscreen.

I specified my own components and bought them all from Novatech, and built my first ever PC. I found it quite easy and have not had any problems with it, but they do have a customer support line which I'm told is very good. I run W7 on my home PC and W8 on my office PC (conventonal desktop mode) and to be honest, there's hardly any difference between them. OK I did install my own Start button and that does help a lot, but the other differences seem to be cosmetic.
In summary then, yes I would recommend Novatech and Windows 8.
