PPI going round in circles - Help!

Hi,
Would appreciate some advice.
I rang Marbles CC to make a PPI claim in December 2012, the lady on the phone was very unhelpful and advised me I'd never had PPI, but I would hear back in 6 weeks.
Heard nothing, assumed nothing....
My CC balance has been zero for years, but on receiving a statement in June, was delighted to see an £815.00 credit balance, with PPI Rebate as the reference with various sums equating to this balance.
My July statement came and I was stunned to see a -£135 balance. Numerous phone calls later, a guy rang me from their PPI team to advise there was an error and he would be sending me cheques out for £680 and £135 plus £30 for inconvenience with all the calls, i was surprised but assumed this was owing to me so was deighted.
I paid these in to my bank, and assumed all sorted.
August statement - -£815.00!
I was originally told the PPI team would credit this back and clea this, but didn't, and weeks of calls to marbles and their PPI team has seen me go in circles and be told it was their error and they had paid me twice.
I've not received one call or letter.
Having now got my September statement it's still the same, on ringing PPI, I've been told they made an error and it's up to me to repay!!
I'm refusing to do so as I've spent the money but also as it's their error and my credit card was clear before all this.
Am I in my rights to do so?
thanks

So they gave you money AND refunded it to your card, and you spent the money on the card, put the cheques in the bank somewhere else, and now you're wondering why they are sending you a staement with an outstanding balance?
Or have I got something wrong.?Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -

They put a credit balance on my card.
I withdrew this to my bank - balance should of been zero.
they then sent me cheques.
I paid into my bank.
balance now the same as the value of the cheques due to their error.0 -
You've had double the money you should have. It's not their error entirely.
You should pay back one lot of money.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

haha how can it not be their fault entirely when they are the one's in control of the balance? I've not demanded any payments and had no idea as to how much I was entitled to!!
Thanks for your invaluable 'advice'0 -

Why did you think the Bank would pay you twice?0 -

Why did you think the Bank would pay you twice?
a) i didn't think they would, it was uneexpected
b) it was a credit card0 -
Nicks43skr - they paid you £815 twice in error. You knew that at the time or else you would not have contacted them about it. Now they want the over payment back - you should pay it. It isn't yours after all, and you have always known that.0

No I didn't, I contacted them because my balance which was clear had a debit balance after years of it being zero.
The payments and cheques had the same sum total but different individual sums making them look different. I assumed this was all that was owing to me.
Not understanding why i am to blame!0 -

When they paid the credit to your card you should not have spent this as they raise a cheque to you and take the balance off the card, they should have told you this, now you have to pay interest each month on this card balance.0
