Moving- how do I know who's cheapest?

Me and the OH are moving in together on the 25th. When we read the meters on that day, should we just call the people they are already with (British Gas) or start with somebody else? I am in rented and he is at home so we don't want to move our current supplier or any of that. I know about the comparison sights, but how do you know who's the cheapest when you're starting from scratch? Bit confused about this at the mo, thanks for any advice.

You have to register with the current supplier even if you are planning to switch, as it would take 4-8 weeks to change to another company.

On the comparison sites, most have an option for 'I don't know my usage', if you select that, they will take a few details and guess for you.
