making it simple almost always means poor utilisation of space but for that same reason, it is important to design it aesthetically or it would look crowded cluttered and overwhelming that instead of being drawn in, we get turned off

i think the overhead should focus on content; so the rounded edges should change, repetitions should end, a place should be allocated for contacting forum team and etiquette and the rest of it, another space for blogs, news etc - all of that should go to the side panel and the bottom, imo. On top, the space should be utilised purely for sign posting. The quick links should go, imo, to the side panel.

I meant succinct and simple in content, meher - the abbreviation (and there's a special term for the ones that can be pronounced as words, learnt it from Penn & Teller but forgotten it now) doesn't specify what it's referring to (design or content).
