Claiming maintenance from the children's mother is unlikely to happen, many people struggle to get fathers to pay, asking a mother would be pointless, anyway she may not be able to afford it herself.

Look on the bright side, why don't you?

Who cares if she can't afford it, the father is struggling to keep the roof over their heads she needs to work her backside off to help provide for them.

OP you should be getting child benefit and be able to make a claim for child tax credits.

Not sure if applies in this case....through the divorce process the OP may be able to claim half of the wife's occupational pension if applicable. Am aware of this as it happened to a family member.
  • Assuming you are both on the mortgage she is also responsible for paying it meantime, at least until you reach some sort of financial settlement covering property, pensions and any other assets. Suggest you see a solicitor to make sure your interests are protected.

You could do a benefit check which would give you an idea of entitlements.
