Money in hiatus?

Hi there, I purchased a couple of things from Scan.co.uk over the weekend. I got a text message about 9.30AM today saying that the payment hadn't been recieved from my Solo card (it's a natwest current account) yet when I checked my online banking facility the money has gone from my account!

I've spoken to both Scan.co.uk and Natwest over the phone and I keep getting sent in different directions. Scan said the card payment has 'timed out' so they can't take the payment and Natwest have said that the money has left my account but could only give me an authorisation code to give to Scan, who say they cannot use it because of their card payments system being online.

So, where the heck is my money and how do I either get it to Scan or get it back in my account? :(

If it has left your Nat West account then it will be in Scan's account.
If they argue the toss take your business elsewhere and do a chargeback for non receipt of goods. (You will have to give them some time to deliver obviously).

Payments using a Solo card happen in two stages. Firstly, the money for the payment is immediately “ring-fenced”. Then, the money is transferred using the same, much slower process, that is used for regular Switch/Maestro cards.

When you checked your account online, it wasn’t that long after Scan tried to take the payment. I assume “gone” means the money had been taken from your account balance, but that the payment wasn’t showing in detail. If this is the case, I would guess the payment failed at or around the ring-fencing stage. Natwest made a record that the money was spoken for, deducting it from the balance, but the message failed to get back to Scan. For Scan, the payment failed. Natwest will automatically return the amount to your account balance, after a few days.

You wouldn’t be the first person to have suffered from this problem. It can effect any Solo or Visa Electron card.

Thanks ejones and Alfie. So the best thing to do is wait I would assume? I can do that, but what about making the payment to Scan? I've used many a website before with Solo card and not encountered this problem before.

How would I go about paying Scan for my items now as I don't want this to happen again!
