Worth getting credit card with overdraft?

Hi,
I don't know anything about banking so forgive me if this sounds like a stupid question.
I have a student overdraft which I'm paying back but really need to improve my credit rating too. I was thinking of getting a credit card and getting things on it we'd already buy like food shopping etc so I can pay it back each month to build up credit but is it worth it if I have this overdraft? i.e will that cancel out all the good I'm doing with the credit card?

Comments

  • Why not apply for an interest free card to do your soending on while you clear the overdraft? If you have no credit story then it might be hard to get such a card but you can always apply.
Even if you can't get a 0% card you certainly won't do yourself any harm by getting any card to start building a bit of history.
