Currently there are noapproved Smart (SMETS) meters they are all trial meters that will require some form of upgrade to be SMETS compliant.

  • Interesting? I thought the British Gas smart meters were SMETS compliment? British Gas use the Landis & Gyr E470 and G370 meters. The only other supplier I know is First Utility, but I don't know if they are SMETS compliment?
  • Eon have been installing them, same meter as BG , the Landys and Gyr E470 electric meter

Isn't the issue that the specs for SMETS have yet to be fully decided?

Anyway I think first utility and Utilita will install SMART.

I want a smart meter as soon as I know that it will be compatible with any supplier and allow seamless tariff change between Economy 7 and Standard if required. Also I assume that the consumer can go online and see their own smart meter current readings and consumption patterns?

But I guess I'm expecting too much.

Why oh why is it taking the UK so long to get it's *ss into gear while politicians bleat on about the importance of energy saving?
