Received a letter from DVLA to renew driving license
Options
I received a letter from the DVLA to renew my driving license as it is due to expire next month., It is asking to send in my plastic license but also the paper counterpart (which i have lost), this sounds silly i know but i take it i will have to first order a replacement paper license, when i get that then send the form off to renew the driving license?

Why hare you not asking DVLA? They are the ones with the answer to your question.

Nope, they only issue the paper bit and photocard together. If you lose either part, you have 'lost' your licence and need to tick the appropriate box on your renewal form.
It will make no difference to the cost of renewing (effectively just updating the photograph) regardless of whether you'd lost the current one or not. It's £20 either way.
I know a lot of people say they've 'lost' their licence when they renew the photograph anyway. Just in the case the DVLA screw up their licence categories, they can 'find' the old licence and get the problem fixed. It's naughty, but I would suggest reasonable!0 -
If you don't have any pictures of yourself handy, it can make sense to use the post office service (as most of the passport photo places around here are £4+, yes I know you can take a picture of yourself using a regular camera and take it somewhere like boots to print off passport sized pictures)
Might be an extra £4/£5 on top of the fee, but the picture is taken there and then and sent electronically to the DVLA to be processed with the application. Beats sending it off in the post.
And if they ask where the current parts are, say you have lost them.0
