Long term investments for children

Hello,
Its my nephew's first birthday in a few weeks and I want to set up some kind of investment for him.
I'm ideally looking for something locked in for the long-term (say 15-20 years) but which allows the possibility of adding in lump sums over the years.
Does anyone have any ideas / recommendations on this?
Thanks
Michael

investment trusts or unit trusts are probably the ideal option. Flexible and able to transfer when required.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0

A maximum £1,200 can be added to a tax free child trust fund each year from parents, relatives or well-wishers. But you might want to have an investment to which only you contributed. Or the parents may be covering this £1,200 off their own bat. The child gets all the CTF money at 18 and not before.0
