As others have stated, Lloyds are under no obligation to consider a hardship claim on a closed account. Have you not put in a claim with your current bank?

But I initiated the claim before the account was closed.

Does that not make a difference?

What was the timeline involved - did you close the account after the decision was made, or before? Was the account in arrears when you closed it?

The account was empty and I just received a final statement that said "Account Closed". No covering letter, just that statement.

    ADDITIONALLY:

Prior to my claim and the account's closure, I complained at the time of receiving bank charges and even wrote and asked them to cancel existing Standing Orders and Direct Debits on the account, as I was out of work and receiving no income.

I received no aknowledgement and the bank continued to process and then reverse SO and DD payments and apply bank charges, accordingly.

I also asked for a temporary overdraft but this was denied.

I put in my hardship claim which was rejected and they continued applying interest charges, albeit relatively low (between £0.60 and £1.50) until a few months later, they closed the account without informing me of their intention and no letter of explanation, simply a final bank statement with the words "Account Closed" printed on it.

Hope that helps and thanks, again, for your response.

You can only request a hardship claim for open accounts which are currently being used, the bank will look at the history on the account over a period (normally 6 months) and scrutinise it for any luxury spending (sky, mobile contracts, dining out etc). They may well ask questions about other spending.

If they do decide in favour of your complaint then most banks will only go up to about 6 months in charges.

You cannot effect a hardship claim against a closed account, the closing of the account in effect terminated all mandates between yourself and the bank and is now probably beyond any time period for review in any case.

6months x £1.50 (at the most) = £9, not even worth the effort.

LOL. Are you the MSE police? :rotfl:

FYI information, I'm guilty of impersonating my daughter who had that offer from her employer and asked her dad (me) for advice.

Not wanting to shatter her lifelong-held-belief as to my infallibility, I posed the question on her behalf and gave her the benefit of my (MSE's) advice. .

Great detective work, by the way.

PS you can stop stalking me now (I'm sure there must be a life out there, somewhere, just waiting for you to embrace it).

    :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Well you shouldn't impersonate anyone, get them on the site so that we get the correct details. Its not detective work, it's simple memory and its not surprising that people will pick up on it. No stalking involved.

It makes you out to look like a liar. And you are wasting people's tme.

Why couldn't you just put 'I am posting this on behelf of my daughter' there wouldn't have been any problem then.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

    On reflection, you are right.

I could have said I was enquiring on behalf of my daughter....simply never occurred to me as I didn't think it mattered, overly.

But I do agree with you, so apologise if you were misled.

The question was genuine, however, so I don't believe anyone's time or expertise was wasted as the advice received was valuable and I am grateful for it.

Keep up the good work, McKneff.

    Sincerely,

    Jib T

    Thanks for that.

So, if someone makes a hardship claim, all the bank has to do is close the account (without notification, in my case).

Very interesting and enlightening, so thanks again.

If the account had been run badly and goes back into credit or put to nil then the bank can close the account.
