Credit Issues

About three years ago I defaulted on a phone bill payment (it's a long story- I was out of the country and unaware of it). When I got back I repaid the sum in full but a mark was obviously put on my credit report. Since then, I have consistently been unable to get an overdraft with my current bank- Barclays. What are some ways I can build up my credit? Should I go to another bank?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Do you have any other existing credit agreements that show on your credit file? Either open or closed?
Have you checked that the default is marked as settled on your credit file?
Are you on the electoral roll at your current address?
Another bank may consider offering you an overdraft based on your circumstances, no way to know unless you try.
The usual way to try to build up a credit history (if you don't currently have any accounts) is to apply for a subprime credit card, use it each month and repay in full each statement.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0
