i am going for an interview on Tues morn re income support. I am a 43 male and left my job over 2 years ago (July 2011) to become self employed. After being self employed for 10 months, it wasnt working paying itself, so i spent the past year at home looking after my young family as childcare costs were more than i was earning. Now that they all will be at school this year, i am looking to return to work. My wife earns about £42,000 - wht am i entitled to? I have never actually claimed before, so i'm a bit useless on what i can get.

You are not entitled to income support as you are not a lone parent or in receipt of carers allowance.
You will need to apply for conts based JSA. This would be based on tax years 11/12 and 10/11. I doubt you will meet the contributions criteria for 11/12, so whilst you can sign on to keep your credits up to date, you will not receive any payment.0 -

Nothing, as you haven't been paying NI contributions you can't get JSA contribution based and your wife earns too much for income based.
Why is your interview for IS as you definitely aren't entitled to that either.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

If you were earning very little and your wife was earning 42k a year, why couldn't you afford childcare costs.
I wouldn't waste your time going for an interview for IS when your wife is earning that amount of money. You have absolutely no chance.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
How much Ni must i have paid in 2010/2011 and 2011/2012 to get contribution based jsa.
i earned £35000 in 2010/2011 year, and £12,000 in 2011/2012 year paying over £4500 in Ni contributions. Would this entitle me to contribution based jsa. i just want to be prepared for interview.0
