Student/Graduate account overdraft charges

Hi,

Looking for some advice or if anyone has been in similar situation. Any help would be much appreciated.

I've always banked with Natwest. My current account was turned in to a student account when I went to study at undergraduate level at university. After I completes this degree I went on to do a Post-graduate Masters degree (1yr) and I am now 2 years in to a PhD. I spoke to my bank when I started my Masters degree to edit the end date of my studies (i.e. postpone student account turning in to a graduate account for an extra year and avoid overdraft charges). I was told at the time that I now qualified for a graduate account, not a student account as that was only for undergraduates.

So almost 3 years down the line I've been paying interest on my overdraft as the charge free amount has gradually been lowered year by year.

I had an appointment with local branch to discuss finances etc. recently and was told that I shouldn't have been paying interest as I'm still a student, and even post graduates qualify for the interest free overdraft. If I send proof of PhD course end date the charges will be lift from NOW.

Before I do this, I want to know whether I'm entitled to, or it's worth persuing trying to reclaim the charges I shouldn't have been paying that was the result of bad advice. I do not however have any record of the conversation in which I was given this bad advice.

Thanks in advance.
