Motorhome Hire

Hello
We are hiring a motorhome for a trip down the South Coast - 5 days. Travelling from Bristol to Bridport (dorset). We wont be doing any touring - just park up for the 5 days and drive back.
I have just been reading T&C's and there is a £1000 excess...
Now I have to make a decision on whether to get additional insurance
OPTION 1:
Now I am toying with idea of getting an excess insurances policy - generally £7 a day which reduces excess to £150.00 - I have just been told my the company hiring the motorhome that he was very cynical about them and they tend to charge 150 per item... so I assume he means if 4 new tyres needed replacing I would pay 600.00
It says:
Covering loss or damage to the external parts of the vehicle
European limit: The excess shown on the rental agreement up to £2,000
Worldwide limit: The excess shown on the rental agreement up to £5,000
Includes tyres windscreen and under body
Keys to the hired vehicle
OPTION 2:
Or getting a fully comp insurance which is just over a 100quid... with an excess of £1000 again.
OPTION 3:
sticking with hire company policy:
the hiring companies policy says (relating to accidents / damage):
1. Deductions will be taken from this deposit in respect of any damage, late returns and equipment replacements costs.
2. In the event that any damage to the motorhome is not covered by our insurance for whatever reason then the company reserve the right to charge the repairs and any associated costs in full to the hirer.
3. It is advised that hirer takes out separate personal accident / travel insurance when travelling in or outside of the UK.
4. Any damage to vehicle, the tyres, windscreen or any theft or loss of personal effects is not covered by our insurance and shall be at your expense and if required in addition to the £1000 damage deposit.
I am really worried now that something is going to happen to the motorhome - scrape / accident / damage etc...... and I am going to be stung for lots fo money.....
Has anyone been on a motorhome holiday and can offer any advice on what to do....
Thanks in advance

If you aren't doing any touring, have you considered hiring a mobile home/chalet/lodge/caravan/teepee at your destination and just use a standard car or public transport to get there?0

already booked and paid for unfortunately (we were supposed to be going to Glastonbury in it but didnt get tickets) so we moved holiday to another date and are now taking kids...0

If your worried then pay the additional insurance for piece of mind, that way should something happen it wont add £1000 to the cost of your holiday.
Motorhomes are worth 10's of thousands of pounds so if I was hiring them I would want all the bases covered."Dream World" by The B Sharps....describes a lot of the posts in the Loans and Mortgage sections !!!0 -
