I've narrowed my search down to two devices.
Bosch PSM 160 A Sander - 160W http://www.homebase.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?langId=110&storeId=10151&partNumber=254030
Bosch Multi Sander PSM 80A - 80W http://www.diy.com/nav/fix/power-tools/sanders/multi_sanders/Bosch-PSM-80-A-Multi-Sander-Kit-10957621?skuId=11448325
I just can't see why I would pay more for the 160W, are the extra 2000 rpm really worth the extra cost? I've not used one before, any advice welcome.
I've choosed the multi sander over belt and orbits because it fits my need better.

I have the smaller one and I do not like it. You need to buy specials pads, and the velcro that holds them on is comng off. I've hardly used it, for detail sanding I much prefer a sanding block, or a small piece of abrasive paper. For larger areas I prefer the Bosch orbital sander which takes ordinary abrasive paper. I suspect I would not like the 160A either. By the way, for getting into corners, get a flat bladed scraper, wrap a piece of abrasive paper over the blade, and use as a sander.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0

I handled a few Parkside (Lidl ) tools and thought the build quality seemed quite good.
So I bought a 115mm grinder and have been very impressed. At £23 the 3 year guarantee makes it disposable.
As regards your sander read this

I bought parkside belt sander from lidl as well. I did sand the floor on two rooms with their belt sander, had to have it replaced but then again I was putting it through its paces.
But the warranty is great and they replaced it no problems. Was about £25ish I think too0 -
Thank you for the info, especially about Lidl. I can see that coming in very handy.0
