Recently got a replacement car. It comes with a new valid MOT but it says engine speed measurement and engine oil temperature measurement by passed. Anyone know what this means and why?

That usually happens when they can't find anywhere magnetic to fix the engine speed sensor to. packed engine bays, aluminium engines & lots of plastic covers to blame.

Nothing to worry about as they will have used temp gauge to make sure oil was hot & rev counter for engine speed

If there is an engine cover then they wont normally remove it to put the sensors on.

All normal these days, Health and safety probably.

The engine is hot so they can safely assume the oil is hot and they can see your rev counter if one is fitted.

It passed thats all that counts.

My mums car got advisories for the engine cover so some tests could not be completed and she had a childs seat in the car so that was another advisory.

The MOT tester is allowed to exercise their discretion on idle and fast idle and if it passes the emission test, no need to look any further.

Is it still true that a tester can't remove anything from the car to carry out the test anyway so they wouldn't be able take the covers off?

MOT tester cant use anything but the prescribed tools, can't dismantle anything and can fail a car for example, if it has so much stuff inside the car (they don't have to move it) that prevents them examining properly seats and belts.

Same on my MOT. The engine has a plastic cover.
