How much was the rent when you lived there on your own?

If you only earn £90 then you will get full housing costs, but as this is less than NMW and your rent is part of your wage not sure how it works,

It's not straightforward unless you tell us your true wage, how many hours you work, if you have children, how much rent is, what he claimed etc

To get some helpful responses (unlike some of the previous posts) please give us some more information about your income.

Since you are claiming working tax credits then you must be working 30 hours a week (you don't mention child tax credits so am presuming you have no children.) How did you get your tax credits award as regards the set up with working in the pub in lieu of paying rent. Did your employer write to confirm your monthly wages and include the rent in this? (Otherwise you wouldn't be showing that you earn the National Minimum wage and this would have been queried)

As regards the 'mess' you are in then your boyfriend will have to repay the HB that he wasn't entitled to. Now they may offset this amount if a joint claim from May entitled you both to some HB (you would be entitled to the one bed local housing allowance for your area) so your repayment may be smaller. If you cannot afford to pay back the whole amount in one go then you can make a repayment plan/deduct it from any HB that you currently entitled to.

Get a joint claim in now for HB and ask your employer for evidence of your income (as you must have done for claiming tax credits)

Also advise the council about your partner moving in - have you been claiming the single person's discount? This should have been cancelled.

Also advise tax credits of your change in circumstances.
