anybody know?

My husband is on a decent wage of 26000 a year but because of sress he has been on antidepressents for awhile now, circumstances are the same and he hates his job so much but feels he is trapped, do you know what would happen if he up and left is job....i'm worried it's going to come to that for his own sanity, he is looking for other work but cannot find anything in his line of work that pays the same or near the same amount of wages, we are also in debt...alot hence why i'm on here!

Any advice would be great.

thankyou

    Hi,

I am not sure of the legalities if your husband leaves his job voluntarily even though as you say it is the job causing the stress. I think your best bet would be the citizens advice bureau before you make any decisions. They should be able to guide you. Perhaps your GP could help with some time off. A friend of mine did get signed off work for a couple of months due to stress and depression. She did get full pay though as she had been working there for many years , so do check on his sick pay entitlements. Not a permanent solution but it could buy you some breathing room. I would check all of this with the CAB,

    Good luck.

Thankyou...he has been off several times with depression, longest being two months, but it slowly comes back again. Thankyou for replying.

The best case scenario if your husband "up and left" his job would be that he would be eligible for benefits. Perhaps he should look at a lower paid job which is likely to be more money than he'll get if he signs on. Being unemployed can in itself be very depressing so only see this as a last resort.
