    Just remember that, if he opts for a lower price and no clear-out, a survey will be of very limited value, as the surveyor won't be able to see what it looks like! This would be one occasion where it might be well worth taking a good builder as well/even in stead of a surveyor, as a builder will often be able to simply price a worst case scenario for what might be concealed (and, in my experience, builders are more willing to shift a heap of carp to see what's happening beneath).

  • He might be. It would be strange if he did, but there you go. It's a place we regularly drive past, so evidence of a new owner should be immediately visible ;-)

    For the best, I think there was always a danger that your thoughts on how much it would cost to make it habitable were unrealistic and you'd be buying a money pit instead of the bargain you hoped for.
