Hi all
My stepdaughter went to set up a bank account with her mother and found out her father, who has remarried, has set up an account a while ago, without her knowledge.
The account has online banking facility etc & according to the bank a card had been issued.
The bank wouldnt provide any details but they confirmed the address given is not the stepdaughters address, but its her fathers address & email address. The bank have now blocked access & blocked the card.
A while back my wife asked her ex for contribution to his daughters college fees as she was doing a new course. His reply was to send a form for funding but as she lives with us, we dont have any benefits incoming. So we assume this account was setup to cream off the funding money. We have had the college look into it and stop any payments.
Would you say this is fraudulent activity?
Why would an account be setup without any knowledge? She is not 18 til early next year.

This looks very odd.
The father opened the account when the child was 16 or 17?
Was this account in joint names or in the child's own name or in the father's name as bare trustee? His reply was to send a form for funding
What sort of funding and to whom was this supposed to be paid?0 -
Hi
Yes the account has been opened while she is 17 yrs old.
The child had an account from years previous to which she had thought had lapsed. This is how come identification wasnt needed as she had been at the same bank previous.
The funding was for her college fees. We are guessing the father was going to apply for this as we arent entitled to it as we have no benefits coming in. We have no knowledge of this account being set up. If it was innocent then it would have been discussed with at least the daughter??
