Selling a car
Options
Hi guys,
My friend is selling his car privately and someone is coming tonight to look at it. He's not sure of the best option if the guy wants to buy it.
SHould he do it as a bank transfer or take a cheque and hand it over once cleared??
The car is worth about £3k.
Any advice is much appreciated.
Thanks
Tim

cash or bank transfer - and don't hand over the keys until the payment is received in fullThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

As above, don't hand the car over until the funds have cleared. Cash would be preferable for that amount.0

Real cash only, no cheques as they can be stopped even after 'clearing' if fraud involved

£3K ? I'd only accept real hard cash.
Make sure YOU keep the V5 to send off.
I have however bought by taking my mobile phone, and transefering money straight to the sellers account, with them watching, and them then checking thier online balance, to see that it's there.0 -
Cash and a checker pen - 100% - also rub a few of the notes on a piece of paper, the ink should rub off slightly if genuine."Dream World" by The B Sharps....describes a lot of the posts in the Loans and Mortgage sections !!!0
