Vodafone's mistake has left me with a bad credit rating... help!

Hi,

To cut a long story short, when I checked my credit report (which I expected to be perfect), I realised Vodafone had put a Default note on my account for £19. This shows outstanding from April 2010 to July 2010 (assuming this was the last month of my contract).

This account was under my maiden name at the time.

On my report it says: Start date (of contract): 18/07/2008
Default date: 03/07/2010.
Date satisfied: -

I have never defaulted on any amount, nor have I had any disputes or cancellations with Vodafone. I joined Vodafone in 2008 and got a 2 year contract.
I took another contract with them in 2012, surely if the amount form 2010 was still outstanding it would've been flagged up on their system when I applied for a new contract or when they do a credit check? (even if it was under my maiden name at an older address?)

Never was I ever in any way, shape or form informed that I had £19 outstanding on my account. Since the start of my contract in 2008, I have been on DD, set up to clear my account in full each month, so I don't understand how I could have gotten an outstanding amount on my account at all??

I have unfortunately never received a letter of default of any sorts.

Can anyone give me any advice on the credit rating part?

Thanks a million for any help whatsoever!

    What is Vodaphone's explanation?

Have you read MSE's Credit Scores article?
There is info in there about how to correct these sort of things.

you say you had no cancellations with vodafone, did you cancel the original contract, and if so, how ?

did you stop the direct debit after the 2 years?

What's Vodafone said about this? Perhaps as you've changed your name and address any communication has been unsuccessful. It's not unreasonable to think that the 2012 credit check would link you with your maiden name and show an outstanding debt but without Vodafone's explanation who knows what happened?

The people best placed to help are Vodafone not us. They will know why they've placed a default on your file.
