Best way to sell a vintage trumpet valued at £150-£200?

I would personally try and sell it to some smaller retailer / trader who deals with instruments and knows what it is worth, rather than putting it on ebay and not getting what you should.0

Above is the top 20 or so sales in the last 90 days (via terapeak). I'd also make a point of saying that the trumpet has been looked over by a music shop and if it's actually had a recent service definitely mention that.0

Thank you greeneye, That's really useful, will study carefully.
Thank you for the further replies, I have a friend who up until a few years ago played in a local community band so she's top of my list of people to ask.
So glad I asked to help weigh up options!0 -
If the trumpet is only going to net you £30-£40 you might even want to consider approaching a local music school and see if they will take it as a donation in your husbands name to be used by pupils who would not otherwise be able to afford an instrument.
My sister was widowed at a very young age and donated some scientific equipment to a branch of a university that her husband was involved in. They have a small commemorative plaque in his name now and once a year his name is added to the prayers in a chapel service.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Thank you Soolin do you know what I may well do that.
We have been to Africa to help some of the poorest children and hope to arrange something there in his name as well as a bench at a wonderful local place where we have many happy memories.
I went to my daughters' school prizegiving a few weeks ago as one of my girls won a prize and that got me thinking I could perhaps offer an award to a pupil each year in his name recognising charity efforts or community involvement or perhaps overcoming adversity in some way as I felt the awards were maybe a little 'over' weighted towards academic achievement -- I know I am going way off topic here but you have struck a chord there and in all honesty I think that you may well have found a good solution for me.
As you can see from my signature on here I have been working hard raising money through selling stuff and other MSE tips and tricks! This has been partly to help replace an income after a year where I have been hardly able to work through grief and succumbing to illness myself. So I have been in a mindset where selling stuff and getting money in has been paramount.
But I am back now and stronger and as you rightly point out for the sake of a few quid I could be helping someone directly in a relevant way -- the money this would raise to help the children we have spent time with in Africa can quickly be raised in other ways.
Thanks so much, off to ponder x0
