Having trouble working due to a long term illness

I hope someone can steer us in the right direction.

My Mum has long term kidney disease and as her kidneys are slowly getting worser, she is getting more and more tired and work is bad enough as they are not doing enough to accomodate her and she is leaving work in tears every day and very stressed because they wont let her take breaks when she needs one and they are always overworked because they are very short staffed.

So I suggested to my Mum that she go and visit the CAB but this is difficult for her because she works mon - fri and as far as I know, you cant make an appt in advance, you have to turn up and see if they can fit you in. But as my Mum works during the day, she cant.

My Dad has always worked full time and so has my Mum and they both earn on average £200-£250 per week each. My Mum's health is only going to get worser and worser as she has hardly any kidney function (although just slightly more than is needed before you end up on dialysis). Now my Mum has always paid her NI contributions so does anyone know who might be in the same situation, if she would be entitled to any benefits and quit work?

My parents are not on any benefits and never have been and dont get any tax credits or any money help. This would be the first time for them and only because of my Mum's long term illness.

Many thanks

  • would she not be better asking her gp to sign her off as not fit for any work(which the new fit notes do),and then we work stop paying her SSP,sign on for esa(the new incapacity benefit)?
i assume she is having medical support if she is this bad?

What is the exact disease your mum has and does she see a GP or attend a Nephrologist?
Why pay full price when you may get it YS ;)
  • Thanks for your replies.

HOWMUCH, She has kidney disease and the consultant has said it could be within the next 1 yr that she would go on dialysis. But the affect of all the different medications she is on and because she is suffering from stress at work and her kidneys are getting worse, it is making working very difficult.

She went to the doctor for stress the other week and he signed her off for 2 weeks but she is back at work again
  • the she needs to get signed off for the illness she has and not for stress
