Has anyone had/is having an afternoon wedding?

Options
:o Hi, I just wondered if anyone is having or has had an afternoon wedding? I'm seriously looking at my wedding budget, and looking for ways to cut down our costs as money is very tight. I have thought about maybe getting married later in the afternoon, so not having a wedding breakfast, but instead a cold buffet and straight into the evening reception, then maybe a bit later some more snacks or something. I just wondered what people's thoughts on later weddings were?

I can't think of any wedding including my own which weren't in the afternoon. Mine was 3:30 and the range is usually from 2pm onwards.

I've never been to one that isn't.

Mine was at 4, with a drinks and canapes hour afterwards. Then everyone came for 7 and we had speaches and a hot buffet.

Yeah I thought most weddings are in the aftenoon.

    2pm Ceremony
    2.30pm Drinks Reception
    3pm Canapes
5pm Wedding Breakfast (Why do they call it that???)
    7pm Evening guests
    8.30m Cake cutting and circulating
    10.30pm Buffet

I kinda think there is too much food going on but dont have a choice with our venue.

I'm also going for around 3pm with a cold buffet in the evening and maybe some snacks later if our budget allows it. I'm hoping that as well as saving money, it means the majority of our guests only need to book one night's accommodation as the majority of them can drive up on the day. I'm also hoping it gives them time to have breakfast so they're not starving until the buffet's served!

I think its because its the first meal you have as a married couple
  • Mine was at 3pm, well 3:30pm as the registrar was late.

It was a small wedding so we had a hot buffet meal, followed my wedding cupcakes and ice cream pots for afters.

I've been to one ceremony that was at 12pm and I felt rushed getting ready as a guest so goodness knows how the bride felt.

  • Thanks for all your replies, by afternoon wedding I meant 4pm ish, and to cut out the wedding breakfast. I just don't want to feel mean as some people will have travelled a long way, does everyone expect a sit down meal?

That's just what I was thinking, we can shave a good 2k off our budget this way! Though don't want to appear tight, or to leave people hungry! Needs must as we are funding it all ourselves, with not much money to spend
