As a general thought, it's worth living in a new house a while before changing anything - with of course the exception of anything dangerous or just essential maintenance. Often what you think you need to spend money on at first and what you realise you should spend on later tends to change.

Definitely. We had the house rewired before we moved in and then when a year later we got around to putting in new wardrobes we had to move sockets because where we thought we wanted them we didn't etc.

Also hated my bathroom which again we replaced in haste. We had to redo it eventually because we realised we couldn't live without a separate shower unit.

Then there was my choice of paint for the hall/stairs and landing! :o

We have a baxi back boiler which is incredibly ugly but the gas fire is lovely.

We have it serviced annually and without exception have been told to keep it until it fails.

Yes, it uses more gas but do the sums of replacing it and the savings on gas. Would take years to break even.

I do agree though that if you are doing any major work then it is probably worth considering (finances allowing)

I do love my airing cupboard and the gas fire is a huge bonus - just hate the appearance - never mind it might become fashionable one of these days!
