New supplier dilemma

Hi wondering if anyone can suggest what to do.
My mum is collecting the keys to her new house tomorrow. She has been living with family for the last year since she sold her old house so hasn't needed a supplier.
The old occupants of the house she is moving into were with Eon. My mum won't be able to live in the house for a while (possibly until December) as it requires some work doing to it first. Mum obviously has to call up a supplier tomorrow and give them the opening readings but she is not sure she wants to stay with eon.
She is asking is she better off going with eon and making sure they are aware she is a new customer moving in and hasnt had an account with any supplier for just under a year or is mum better off going direct to the supplier of her choice now??
She is unsure who she wants to go with, she suggested British Gas as this was her supplier at her old house but I said she should do a quick comparison and see who is the cheapest for that property. Which I would have to do tonight / in the morning online as mum has no computer as yet.
Mum wants to know what is the best thing to do as she needs to tell someone the moving in meter readings tomorrow and thinks it might be simpler for her to go with Eon or British Gas and change at a later date when she has properly moved in and settled down (around December it is predicted).
Just for the equation my mum lives in Wales and I live in England so its not at all easy for me to simply pop round to help.
Thanks

Failure is only someone elses judgement.
Without change there would be no butterflies.
If its important to you, you'll find a way - if not, you'll find an excuse ! ~ Easy to say when you take money out of the equation!

She has no choice of what she initially does. She will be in a deemed contract with Eon and on the day she receives the keys she should ring and register with Eon, preferably on a standard tariff, so that she is not liable for exit fees, and at the same time give them her opening meter readings.
She can then (the same day if she wants) go straight online and start a switch with whoever she wants. A switch can take between 3 and 8 weeks although most take around 5 weeks.0 -
She has to make a decision - there is no dilemma.0
