Removing Pop-Up waste

Does anyone know how to safely remove the bit that you twist (just below the taps) to open the plug on this type of pop up waste mechanism?
It has stopped working in that you can twist the knob but the plug doesn't lift. I have bought a replacement and I can see how that works as there is a small hole in the knob where a screw can be reached and undone. However, on the current one, it is solid all the way around. I can't find an obvious way of removing it.
Cheers

Does the knob itself unscrew? Any way of posting a pic?0

It doesn't unscrew. It only goes so far either way. It won't let me post a link or picture as I'm a new user unfortunately. It looks similar to one on any bath except the new ones I've seen all have a small hole for a screw and this doesn't!
I'm wondering if it is a push on one in which case I'll need to lever it off. Just worried I might damage the bath itself.0 -
I am not sure I can help without seeing it, sorry. The only thing I can suggest is if you know the make of it, Google it. There are lots of online instructions from manufacturers, especially for plumbing items I have found in the past.
Does the existing on have a small pipe between the knob and the plug? Some work on pressure and if this has come off, might all that needs fixing on it....?
Sorry not much help!0
