CPP do I qualify

I definitely had, for some years, CardGuard protection with HSBC, I cannot remember what particular years I had it, although I do know it was outside the automatic qualifying dates.
Quote from MSE:
CPP will only write to those it soldproducts to between January 2005 and March 2011. However, if you believe youwere mis-sold outside these times, make a claim anyway. A mis-sell is amis-sell, regardless of when it took place.
I rang the helpline number given and the guy who answered said I don't qualify - very unhelpful manner - should I take it further and how would I when I don't have a clue to the years I paid?
Many thanks.

The Helpline may have been "unhelpful", but why exactly did they say you don't qualify? Is it because you are trying to make a claim without any documentary evidence?
If you feel strongly that it was mis-sold to you, then make a complaint directly to HSBC as the MSE article advises. However, if you have no proof and the Bank no longer has records from so long ago then you won't get very far I'm afraid.0 -
The reason I am asking is because the advice given on the phone is in complete contrast to the advice given by MSE - hence the quote I gave. I quite expect unhelpfulness on the phone, it's the same with any sort of claim, a denial of responsibility is usually given at first because any claim, I'm sure, is not paid willingly.
So, do I go with the guy on the phone, or do I go with the advice given by MSE? Anyone else?
By the way I have made claims for PPI, Endowment Mis-selling and Council Tax Rebate (wrong band) - and as the song goes 'two out of three ain't bad' which is my success rate. I did have documentary evidence for all of those, this time unfortunately I don't - does that in itself mean I don't have a chance at all, there must be records somewhere? The important things in life are not things ........0 -
