Can my neighbour sign DVLA drivers license photo?
I just had them do it and now am having doubts before I send it...
The requirements say:
The person signing your photo must
live in the UK
know you personally (for at least two years)
not be a relative
Which the neighbour conforms to...but then it has the specifics:
Suitable people include
lay magistrate or Justice of the Peace
a minister of religion
a professionally qualified person, for example, a lawyer, teacher or engineer
a librarian
a local business person or shopkeeper
a local councillor, MP, MLA, MEP or MSP
a bank or building society officer
an established civil servant
a police officer
The neighbour has retired which she wrote on the form and I suddenly doubted if it was a good idea...and might be rejected...but because they have seperate clauses I wasnt sure if the main bit is fine (then they do a check...)...
This is a renewal BTW of an old photocard...I mention that because in thehelp form it says you do not need someone to sign your photo if you are updating the photo on your license"...
Well - Im renewing the license is that counted as an updating photo? Or is a photo update a more trivial application?
Apologies if this sounds stupid - Im tired and have CFS...seems confusing...

If you can still tell it's the same person on both the old and the new photos, then they shouldn't need signing.
If you are just updating the license because you have moved house, then from what I remember, if the photo isn't up for renewal, then they have your photo stored, and it won't need renewing.0 -
Don't worry about it. They get LOTS of applications and certainly don't check each one in depth. I signed my partner's and her daughter's (had a different address at the time) without a problem and her dad (knew me about a year) signed mine when I moved up here and had to change from paper to photocard.
If you're incredibly unlucky, they do check yours, and decide she's unsuitable, then they'll just write back asking for someone else to sign it.0 -
ah ok it doesnt sound like they are too stringent...thanks guys
The neighbour wasnt a judge or anything but had her own business etc...
They should I guess have my old pic on their system...as it was my last photocard...Ive lost it now so cant send it...0 -
If you have renewed your passport recently they can use that picture.0
