That depends on the APR on the card, what APR he could get on a loan (if he could get a loan) and how much he can afford to repay each month.

You mention you thought it would be around £40? how long was he planning on paying this over?

The finance was for 36 months

It's too late for this time around, but please read the above back to yoursellf and realise how it sounds. You've no savings, can't afford even the interest, yet have bought a "very expensive" gaming computer, which apparently you "needed".

I'm not judging you here, but is this really sensible?

He actually works from his pc! So it was 'needed' very quickly! Its not about having savings i was going on with the finance interested being added on to the monthly cost so would have cost us around £40 pm not how ever much we need to pay off to slow the interest on the credit card! His dad has just said we need to pay atleast 150-300 to make it ok..which is not an option when we rent and have a child..

Like i said..if i had known it was going on a card i would have said no and carried on the finance where we would have been able to afford it.
  • I'm not sure how feasible this would be - and I assume you've already thought of this but why not ask (nicely) for his dad to pay the credit card bill now (i.e. in full, thereby stopping further interest) and you pay him back directly with cash? Maybe add the interest that you would have been paying on the finance deal as a sweetener for the offer?

Sounds like a misunderstanding of how credit cards work all round - both you and your boyfriend and his dad!

im sure he doesn't need an Alienware PC to do work on thou.
and most likly doesn't even need a gaming pc for work

i could easily do my work at home on a pc costing half that much, and i do need a gaming pc for work

He needed a very expensive gaming rig, yet doesn't earn enough from his work to put away savings for the day when it breaks?

I'm curious now, what job requires a high-end PC to be bought by the worker, but pays so badly?
You need to find a way to start saving, to avoid this happening in future. It's probably also worth looking for a job that requires equipment that's more expensive than you can afford to save up for.

For this part, you can still take out a personal loan now, and use it to repay the credit card.
