Cheap source of copper for keeping slugs out of our raised veggie bed

Seriously, don't waste your money. I've watched slugs crawl all over copper without batting an eyelid (do they have eyelids?). Standing in your garden and shouting at them to go away would be just as effective, and cost free! Do you really want to spend your gardening time scrubbing pipes with wire wool?
Best thing is to garden in a way that minimises the slugs' opportunities to ruin your day. Bring on your seedlings in pots rather than seed beds and try to only plant out good strong plants into warm soil so that they'll grow away quickly. It's when plants are sulking in cold, wet soil that slugs really do their worst. Putting comfrey leaves down as a decoy around plants you want to protect might also help a bit. Slugs love comfrey and will often go for that first. Change the leaves regularly and you usually find slugs under the old ones.0
