BT Messenger starting up when I log into email

Every time I log into my BT Yahoo email account the Messenger feature opens as well. I have to log out of messenger and, according to Yahoo, that setting should stay that way next time I log into my email account.
It doesn't do that. BT Helpline have spent well over an hour to sort this, but without any luck.
So be careful and check when you log in: your messenger could be on as well without you knowing.
By the way: I have never, ever, used this feature, because I do not like it.
