What are you DIYing for your wedding?

Hello everyone,

I was just wondering what little (or big!) things people were planning on making themselves for their wedding rather than buying?

Thought it might be nice to have a thread where we can all help each other out and maybe provide some inspiration!!

To start us off, here are the things I am planning on making:

Stationery
- Invites
- Order of service
- Place cards for table

Jewellery
- Headband/tiara for me
- Headband for flower girl
- Hair clips/combs for bridesmaids
- Earrings for me and bridesmaids
- Necklaces for bridesmaids
- Bracelet for me

Favours
- Some sort of flavoured alcohol! Possibly raspberry vodka or similar

Shoes (I am going to buy a pair I like and then 'strass' them, which basically means adding a load of sparkly bits :))

Writing it all down it seems like I may have been a bit over-ambitious, but I've got until next November so hopefully I'll manage to do at least some of it!! I've never made jewellery before but I've seen a headband I like that I'm convinced I can make myself for a lot cheaper - I may change my mind once I've actually given it a go :rotfl:

I'm making the invites, button bouquets and button holes. I'm also planning to make a cheese wedding cake- I figure it should be easy enough to stack a few cheese wheels!

    Invitation cards and room decorations.
  • Oh wow, you are doing a lot! I like doing crafty stuff but I didn’t want to end up doing too much and getting stressed out.

I am doing the Invites, Order of Service and place names. I am also making all the table decoration which includes 'photobooth' type props.

My bridesmaid is making 1 brides bouquet, 2 smaller bridesmaids’ bouquets and 3 buttonholes from felt flowers/brooches/beads.

The rest is being bought I guess!

It does seem a lot now it's written down in black and white  I may end up reducing the list a bit, but I have got over a year so I guess if I do it bit by bit it won't seem too bad! I've done quite a bit of research into how I want things to look, I just need to get on with it now or it will be Christmas before I know it and I just won't get the time!

MAD_Woman that all sounds fab! (nice username by the way ;)) I had thought of doing the wooden initials but I've seen some pre-decorated ones on eBay that are really cheap so I may just get those rather than add anything else to my list!

Are you usually very crafty? I do the odd bit for Christmas and the odd present, but I have never done invites/cards or jewellery before, so I'm a bit apprehensive but will try and keep things simple so as not to over-face myself!!

I'd love a cheese cake - my fianc! has said I can have one if we have any spare money left in the budget so I may well end up DIYing one myself! We are having a 'proper' wedding cake so may have just a small cheese cake for the evening buffet (might be made of Babybel if I don't rein in my spending a bit :rotfl:). Don't know if you've seen this website, the prices are steep but it's good for getting ideas on how to make the cake look pretty:

Not at all oh was into modelling in his miss-spent youth and has an eye to detail, we have kept things simple though, even if over a wide range.

The letters are quite big ones 6", and total about £25 of ebay for 4, 2 different versions. I didn't see decorted ones when I looked. we needed to paint the name stand for the tables anyway so used the same paint. no extra costs. and they match! :rotfl:

I think it will work out a lot cheaper doing it yourself- I'll have to make a thread about my progress nearer the time!

Oooh those cheese cakes are amazing! I particularly like the heart shaped cheese on there. Will definitely be taking some inspiration from that site- thank you for sharing :)

I know you were joking but I rather like the idea of including Babybels- maybe a Babybel border around the bottom tier? :D
