Which credit card should I apply for?

  • Thanks for your suggestions. I've uploaded the documents Equifax asked for. I'll hold off on any more credit card applications for the time being.

I think you're right Tixy that 2 cards might be best: 1 for balance transfers and 1 for purchases. If I'm able to sort out Equifax's problem with my address, I'll try that approach. At the moment, I can't even get 1 card though!

I'll let you know what happens.
Thanks for your help - I really appreciate it!

  • If First Direct gave you a current account then I can't believe there is anything too nasty on your credit file - they are one of the pickier providers.

They are also fairly good to deal with so I would give it a couple of months and then apply for their credit card again - give them a call to discuss it rather than applying online though. In my experience, once you're with them they are pretty reasonable. I opened a current account and credit card with them without even being on the electoral roll although I had to speak directly to the underwriting department to explain my situation.
  • This situation is turning into a sorry saga. Equifax have so far, refused to let me have a copy of my credit card report. I've uploaded the documents they asked for. A reply was promised within 2 weeks. It's been 4 weeks with no reply.

The Equifax website says the only way to contact them is via a very expensive customer service number (I don't have a landline) or online, and they've locked me out of their online service. So I'm going to try sending them a letter of complaint today and see if that unlocks the problem.

Is there anything else I can try?
    Thanks

Ring them on 01274 759 759 - their Bradford office (or at least it used to be when I worked there!)
