Put this into Google IRQL-not-less-or equal
I had the same problem as you ages ago and it was sonic stage software clashing with another program on my computer

    A few ideas:

Look for red or yellow icons in Device Manager (right-click My Computer - Manage), particularly in Universal Serial Bus controllers. Remove anything still there which looks like it was related to the 4 port USB hub.

Also in Computer Management, check Event Viewer (Application and System) for errors or warnings related to USB, mouse, keyboard etc.

Go to https://www.windowsupdate.com and check for any updates, not just critical updates.

Also download and run http://www.memtest.org/ to check for memory errors.
  • chippy ... memtest .. which is the download i need .. there's loads !!

The latest, V1.70 - Pre-Compiled Bootable ISO (.zip) is the easiest. Unzip the .iso within the .zip file and use the Burn Image feature in your CD burner to burn the .iso file to CD.
  • chippy , sorry .. don't really understand .. i've downloaded it ..

    but i don't really understand ...

Unzip the .iso within the .zip file and use the Burn Image feature in your CD burner to burn the .iso file to CD

Unzip the .iso within the .zip file and use the Burn Image feature in your CD burner to burn the .iso file to CD

Unzip the zip file to your desktop. You will see an ISO file. Then, with your CD burning software, find the option to 'Burn an Image file', select the ISO and burn. Then just boot of the newly created CD.

If you are still stuck, post back with what CD burning software you use.

Does it happen when online or printing? I suspect it may be memory as earlier mentioned or the next likely would me the ADSL modem. Do you do large downloads (P2P)
  • wonga ...

happens when ..online .. can't recall .. maybe even when offline ?

    no large downloads .

just have a few exel and word docs on my machine .. and use internet and email a lot.

no music... no pictures .. about 10% of space used on drive. Biggest file is autoroute !.
