Linked-In Membership

Hi, i'm new to this forum and am hoping somebody can tell me my rights in this situation.

I recently upgraded my linked in account to premium after believing that I clicked on the pay monthly option - before I realised what had happened i'd paid for a yearly membership of over £80 instead of the monthly option of approx £5-6 pounds.

Their site says I have no cancellation rights!!!

1) Do I have the right to cancel this purchase?
2) The head office of linked in is in Ireland - are the laws different there?
3) Has anyone had a similar problem and how did you fair sorting it out?

Thanks in advance, and yes, I do realise it was my own fault for clicking before reading properly...

    1) It is not a regulated product and so their contract can state pretty much what it wants as long as it doesnt fall foul of the unfair contract terms act or equiv. There is no statutory right for a cancellation clause and once a service has commenced (which is instantly with LinkedIn) then you lose your DSR rights for a cooling off period

    2) Ireland is a totally separate country, yes their laws are different. The contract however is governed by Californian law as laid out in their terms of service.

    3) Generally the guys on LinkedIn are fairly approachable. If you contact them and say you messed up but you do still want the monthly subscription then they may be willing to sort it for you as a gesture of goodwill.
  • Problem over - i've had an email showing money is to be refunded.

    So, I have learnt...

    1) always double check figures carefully before you press to confirm payment. Don't think it's right - know it's right.

    2) Linked in are a professional company

    Thanks

As a matter of interest why is yearly membership more expensive than 12 X monthly cost?

    Seems a bit strange!

If you look at their website it isn't, not sure where the OP got their figures from. My profile says its £16 a month for Business access or the equiv of £13 a month for annual payment.

Cheers that makes more sense. I'm a member of linkedin but am not premium.

    The OP's figures seemed strange!
