Halifax Clarity credit limit increases

Hi all,

Just wondering how people have gotten on with credit limit raises on the Clarity card?

I was accepted with a limit of £1,400 in January 2012. Turned down for an increase in September last year and April this year. No searches on credit files and even so I have significantly reduced my credit limits and debt to credit level. £1,400 is by far the lowest limit Ive ever had from a mainstream lender (I worked my way up to an £8k limit with them previously until closing in 2009, account always managed as per terms and conditions).

Do you have any other accounts with Halifax, such as a currect/savings accouunt?

I applied for a Clarity card in June after having eventually paid off a CC with a different company which has a limit of £3,250.

My Clarity card has started at a limit of £5,000. I'm assuming it was so "generous" as either a) I'd had a current account with them for 9 months and they were rewarding loyalty or b) they were hoping I'd spend big and pay back small.

Yep - I signed up for the current account with £100 cashback and £5/month bonus offer. They offered the credit card during that application.

My Clarity was issued last June, only Halifax account at the time - £2200 limit. No auto increases since, haven't asked for one either.

It's a fairly low limit, but enough for what I use it exclusively for (foreign cash), plus I have a lot of available (though not used) credit on cards (almost 100% salary).

    Hi all,

I'm going to request a limit raise at the end of October. I've been rejected twice before though in the past 18 months (was in August 2012 ago, the other in mid March). My limit is £1.4k.

If I were to ask for £2.5k, will this be a straight yes or no? OR could they settle somewhere short of that (say £1.8k-£2kish?). I've known it to happen with other lenders previously that if I asked for something they may not have been able to offer it, but offered something anyway. Even a few extra hundred quid would be fine, but ideally £2k and I'll then close another account.

Can't say for certain, but if you do it over the phone (ie with a person) you could ask for an increase rather than specifying an amount, whereas online you'd have to put in a figure? Worth a shot.

well they gave me 6.6k off the bat, I got it reduced to 3k as I only use for overseas spending and cashback cards seem a better bet for domestic spending?

I'd had a rewards account for a few months, but nothing significant going through it TBH.

Agreed that there's better cards for domestic spend. I use mine for the same reason as you (only foreign cash really, purchases go on the Aqua reward).

I don't have the Clarity Rewards, as I didn't have a Halifax current account when I got it and never bothered asking to upgrade it after I got one.

Same here, but I got a £8.5k limit, did have a lot in one of their savings accounts at the time though.

Only low limit I currently have is a amex everyday cash back, 2k which is the lowest I've had for twenty years, but fine for the 5%.
