There is a file there which is what I had backed up. But it's 'not accessible' 'Access denied'. I have looked before and I stated in my first post I think that files were being transferred but I cannot find anything. I'll have another look tomorrow. :-)

I suspect this is because the "owner" of the file is intrinsically linked to the previous Windows XP setup (and no longer exists now you wiped the disk).

When you have a look tomorrow, can you list the names of the sub-folders shown under C:\Documents and Settings ?

You might be able to use this technique to get access to the folder which was restored, which should correspond to your old username:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/810881
  • It appears from the log file that you made the backup and restore within 10 hours of each other, whilst reformatting and re-installing the XP Pro OS in the intervening period.

It must have been a long night!

Thank you very much. It's worked and they're all been restored to the file I mentioned earlier I couldn't access. :-)
