I think you'll find it is true.on equifax website it is explained that opt in means that myself or someone financially associated with me gave them a consent for that, which obviously is not true
You agreed to their privacy policy when you first started doing business with them...

Thanks for that. However I called Equifax and I was advised to dispute that if it was not application for any kind of loan. We will see what will happen.0 -
Did you notify BT that you would be recording the telephone conversation with them? Or was it done without their authorisation?0

A footprint left on someone's credit file is left to tell other lenders that the customer has applied for a new account or facility.
As the OP hasn't requested a new account or facility, the footprint is therefore misrepresentative, therefore inaccurate and recorded in breach of the data protection act.
If OP raises a dispute with Equifax the search will be removed, I can pretty much guarantee it

I don't remember, but I don't think so. On a different topic I was always wondering what are the rules for that. For examples in a TV there is so many programmes when they film undercover etc. Would recording without consent be worthless? I only started recording conversation with companies recently when I wanted to file Ombudsman complaint against Three and they wanted me to give all the times and details of the conversation and obviously I did not remember. So I was doing that more as a record of whom I spoke with and about what etc than using actual conversation against someone. Is it still wrong? If I would warn someone then could they just say that they don't want to talk to me?0
