Canada square operations (egg) worth pursuing?

Hi all,

As I have had some great help from the community on my first ever post I wanted to get your thoughts on the below.

I'll start by quoting my most recent letter from Canada square operations:

"I have reviewed your account history with our internal credit bureau team. I can confirm that we are reporting your account as opened on 16 may 2008, defaulted on 27 November 2008 and fully settled with a zero balance as of December 2010"

This letter is dated 10 January 2013 and they only classed the account as settled when I complained to them after reviewing my experience credit report for the first ever time.

This means that for more than 2 years I have been carrying around an adverse credit score and being declined for god knows what because they didn't update their records??

My question to you all is do you think that this is worth referring to the Fsa or was it my fault for not knowing? These companies seem all too keen to update their files when things go wrong but not bother when I try to fix things

Your advice would be most appreciated

Did they resolve the issue of inaccurate data within 30 days of you bringing it to their attention?

If so, they have acted within the letter of the law (Data Protection Act).

  • Technically yes. Does this mean that it is on my head to report to them their own inaccuracies? If I hadn't been applying for a motgage then this could have stayed on my record for years as I had no reason to view my credit report until this point

    Unfortunately, yes.

All data bearers have a month ("reasonable timeframe") to resolve any inaccuracies brought to their attention, allowed under the Data Protection Act.

It has been generally advised widely in recent years to obtain a copy of your credit file prior to any major credit applications.

Have you actually been turned down for anything though?

If you have then can you prove that it was because you had this unsettled default or was it the fact that you had the default on there and even if it was marked as settled you would still have been declined?
