To be honest pretty much any spec of new laptop would suit your purposes - in fact most of them will be over spec'd for what you want to do, so I wouldn't worry too much.

Personally I always find the deal-breaker on a laptop is the keyboard - they vary enormously, some feeling comfortable and some most definitely not.

You certainly don't need anything high spec for what you want so I would go for any modern laptop that you like. Is screen size important? Battery life? Have a look at the factors that you require.

You can also save money by having free software which will work in a similar way to MS Office.

  • what are your preferences? because if that's what you're only gonna do with your laptop, i would agree with the others in saying that you don't really need a high spec laptop for that purpose.

'Crash' does not require a new laptop.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

I'm on my second 17" Toshiba. First one still works, but upgraded after 3 years. Big screen makes it an ideal desktop replacement. Full size keyboard with separate numeric keypad. Very happy with the brand.

If your computer has just crashed then reboot it, if you are looking just for a new device then pretty much any laptop you can buy today fits your criteria. Are there any other specifics you want with the new device?
